EZRA Community Chaplaincy, through our new Mental Health Community Outreach Project, is pleased to provide a listening ear to those living with mental health issues.
The ongoing situation amid the COVID-19 pandemic has added to the stress and anxiety we normally experience. Not only does the virus pose a physical hazard, but it also takes a toll on our mental health.
EZRA is available to help. Call us at 425-2255 when you need to talk.
Statistics Canada reports that 1 in 5 Canadians will experience a Mental Health issue in any given year. That means in 2020, some twenty percent of us will face difficulties that will negatively impact our mental health. The uncertainty around the Covid-19 pandemic and fear around its potential spread is unnerving. This can further complicate an already delicate mental health reality.
The cautions and protocol required to “flatten the curve” cause a confusing and stressful time for all of us, further affecting our mental health. Ongoing reports of additional cases daily and the frustration around situations where some individuals are not following protocol fuels anxiety.
During these times, where social distancing is required, we should keep in touch with friends and family by telephone, email or social media. Children and youth need to be encouraged and comforted, and provided with interesting and exciting activities within the limits of our circumstances.
We know that people in quarantine will go through a series of dynamics like boredom, anxiety, anger, restlessness and frustration. Family members who have transmitted the virus to other members of the family often experience guilt. We might find it difficult to go to our jobs and face financial difficulties to add to our stress level. Suicidal tendencies can develop.
Depending on our faith during this difficult time is important. God has not abandoned us. We are not alone.
EZRA helpers are here for you. Do not hesitate to call us at 425-2255 when you need to talk.
